ACS-CVS Spring 2017 Meeting
The lab had a strong showing at the ACS-CVS spring meeting at UConn on Saturday, April 22. We had 5 poster presentations, and Allie’s was selected as the “Best Poster” award winner.
Cottrell Scholar Award
I am excited to be a 2017 Cottrell Scholar and thrilled to have support for our project looking at biological noise in Dictyostelium discoideum as well as for my work on using the primary literature in the classroom. More info about the program is here.
First Research Paper from the Lab Published!
The first research paper from the laboratory, titled “Interspecies comparison of peptide substrate reporter metabolism using compartment-based modeling,” has been accepted by Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry and is now available online. It was even selected by the editor to be highlighted as a Paper in Forefront! Congratulations to co-authors Allie, Nhat, Kunwei, and Prof. Brooks Emerick, and many thanks to our colleagues in the Allbritton Lab at UNC and the Graf lab at UConn for their help.
ACS 2016 Philadelphia
Kunwei Yang and Allie Tierney presented their research at the fall national ACS meeting in Philadelphia this week.
I also presented an overview of the lab’s work in a symposium honoring the Division of Analytical Chemistry’s awardee for chemical instrumention, Nancy Allbritton. Congratulations to Dr. Allbritton on her much-deserved recognition!

Funded!
The lab has received its first external grant, through the Research at Undergraduate Institutions at the National Science Foundation! The funding is through the Cellular Dynamics and Function program at the Division of Molecular and Cellular Biology.
ACS CVS 2016
The group attended the American Chemical Society Connecticut Valley Section spring meeting at Mt. Holyoke on April 23.
NERM 2015
Allie Tierney and Kunwei Yang presented their research at NERM 2015 in Ithaca, NY this week. Their poster presentations were well-received, and we had a great time at the meeting and exploring upstate New York with Prof. Brindle and Phong Quach ’17.
